Recently, the Youth League Committee of Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) led a team of teachers and students to visit Chaoshan Historical Culture Expo Center and Zhen Museum, with the purpose of gaining a deeper understanding of the culture and history in Shantou.

In the Chaoshan Historical Culture Expo Center, teachers and students uncovered the "mysterious veil" of Chaoshan culture. What came in sight when they entered the center was the Red Head Boat, symbolizing people's hard work and pioneering spirit. It also presents the link between Chaoshan people at home and abroad and the motherland.

In Liu Qiben's exhibition, students lingering in the gallery were shocked by the vivid depiction of contemporary Chinese paintings. In the Chaoshan Overseas Chinese Museum, many students were deeply touched by numerous Chaoshan patriots' struggle stories. In the Chaoshan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, students immersed themselves in Chaoshan culture ranging from food to handicrafts.

Zhen Museum is a jewelry-themed museum that collects traditional gold and silver artifacts, which is built to promote Chinese jewelry culture and present the key role it plays in China.

The participants visited 7 exhibition halls in the museum and took a closer look at the traditional Chinese jewelry historically to learn about its developments. Among the exhibits, the most impressive one is "Huasi Wind and Rain Bridge", the museum's signature treasure, known as the largest art work decorated with filigree. It took the experienced craftsmen 4 years to create the work and adopted a combination of 8 techniques. Observed from afar, the bridge is magnificent while it presents to be more delicate from a closer look. The distinction mirrors the spirit of craftmanship.

This activity expanded the students' knowledge of traditional Chinese jewelry culture, deepened their understanding of the local culture in Chaoshan, and helped to strengthen their connection with the city.
