Recently, the Research Center "Science and Engineering for Health and Medicine" undertaken by Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) was listed on the 2023 Natural Science Platforms and Projects (Key Laboratory) in Universities in Guangdong Province announced by the provincial Education Department. This Research Center is in line with the "Healthy China Initiative" and the "Healthy Guangdong Action" and will promote knowledge innovation, scientific and technological progress, and high-quality development of industry technology in the fields of health, medicine and medical treatment in Guangdong Province through research on core technologies in the health industry.
The Research Center is led by Prof. Harold Corke and completed together with GTIIT members from the university's Materials Science and Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, as well as Environmental Science and Engineering disciplines.
This Research Center gathers researchers in materials, biophysics, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, food science and engineering, health testing and disease treatment. It aims to form a multi-disciplinary team focusing on cutting-edge research and applied research of biomedical health. Four research directions have been set: functional food and human health, bioactive substances and biosynthesis, biophysics and medical materials, health testing and medical simulation.
GTIIT's international scientific research team, interdisciplinary integration, advanced research platform and strong external cooperation support the Research Center's research on fundamental rules, theories and key advanced technologies focusing on medical health, food health, materials and chemical engineering, as well as healthcare. It aims to build a basic and applied research base with broad-reaching, cross-cutting and innovative qualities, as well as a talent cultivation center tailored to the development of science and technology.
