From June 8th to 9th, Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Shantou Municipal Government held the third meeting of the Nan'ao Science Conference in Nan'ao to solicit opinions of the "Work Plan for the Construction of Guangdong Basic Research Center" and "Guangdong Basic Research Strategic Major Project – Implementation plan for ‘key technology and frontier scientific research of major scientific and technological infrastructure’ (2023-2027)".
More than 20 experts and scholars from universities and scientific research institutions, including Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) academicians Gong Xingao and Zhao Hongwei, Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) academicians Zhang Si and Yu Shaohua, attended the meeting. Wu Shiwen, deputy director of Guangdong Science and Technology Department, delivered a speech.

The Nan'ao Science Conference, which focuses on basic research, is expected to help build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a global highland for basic research and original innovation. The Conference opened and started its first meeting in February in the beautiful Nan'ao Island in Shantou. Focusing on basic research and talent training in basic academic disciplines, GTIIT, as the Secretary Office unit and one of the organizers of the Nan-Ao Science Conference, has ensured the Conference's continued success while adhering to municipal strategy.
Its third meeting aims to strengthen basic research and innovation based on the country’s strategic needs, and accelerate the ten-year basic research plan of Guangdong Province. The focus is on the construction of Guangdong's basic research center, utilizing major scientific and technological infrastructure to support the development of basic research. According to the meeting, the provincial strategic major project "Key technology and frontier scientific research of major scientific and technological infrastructure" will further enhance Guangdong’s innovation.

At the meeting, experts and scholars offered a wealth of advice for the topics above, as well as thoughts on how to implement them. Wu expressed his warm welcome and sincere thanks to the academicians and experts, and responded to the questions and suggestions raised by all parties accordingly.
During the Conference, academicians and experts also visited the “door of nature” and the breed demonstration base in Nan'ao.
