Laboratory is the base for STEM students to seek knowledge and explore the unknown. Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) attaches great importance to cultivating students' professional ability, and also helps students to develop safety awareness in daily life.
Safety Education
The first lecture on safety education for freshmen was given by GTIIT EHS Office. By learning the safety knowledge required for STEM students, the freshmen realized the significance of safety awareness. Safety should be taken as the cornerstone of the exploration of science, and GTIIT students are supposed to join in the construction of campus safety culture.
Lab Safety Tips
Here are some essential lab safety tips for students.
Don't be afraid. The laboratory is like a more complicated kitchen! Be logical and rational.
Learn everything about the lab! Remember the locations of exits, first aid kits, firefighting equipment, emergency showers and eye washer.
Don't store food or drinks, or eat in lab.
Store personal belongings in drawer or locker to avoid contamination.
Wear your PPE before experiment.
Before experiment, understand the risk & hazards of chemicals or other experimental materials.
What we need is professional & courteous behaviors and attitudes.
Remove PPE before you leave the laboratory to prevent spreading contamination to other areas.
Don't try things you're not sure of easily inside the lab, and ask questions promptly if you're not sure.
Know how to respond according to the emergency signal. Know the emergency assemble point on campus.
