The Founding Ceremony of Fanghui Scholarship was held in Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT). "Fanghui Scholarship" is donated by Mr. Zhang Yunhui, Chairman of Hunan Chamber of Commerce in Shantou, and his wife Lu Huifang. It aims to support GTIIT's talent cultivation and innovation.
Peng Cong'en, Vice Mayor of Shantou; Li Xiang, Director of Shantou Education Bureau; Zhang Yunhui, Chairman of Hunan Chamber of Commerce in Shantou, and his wife Lu Huifang; and representatives from each institution showed in the ceremony. Academician Gong Xingao, Chancellor of GTIIT, as well as representatives of GTIIT's faculty and staff, attended the event. The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT.
Chairman Zhang Yunhui said that GTIIT has made significant advances in teaching and research since its inception. "Many years ago, I came to Chaoshan, a place full of love and hope. I've realized my value of life here and I am glad to have this chance to support higher education here, giving a hand to young students. I and my wife hope to encourage students to work hard, explore unknowns and achieve excellence, and cultivate talents for our country!"
The name of "Fanghui Scholarship" is taken from a line in a poem by Tang Dynasty poet Meng Jiao:"Such kindness of warm sun, can't be repaid by grass." Mr. Zhang Yunhui hopes to do his best to support the development of national education and provide more high-quality educational resources for students.
Chancellor Gong expressed his appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Zhang for their donation on behalf of GTIIT. "To support education is to seek the future. As a driving force of university education, educational donations can benefit society. With joint support from provincial and municipal governments, as well as friends from all walks of life, GTIIT has shown its high quality and great potential. We will make every effort to develop GTIIT."
Peng Cong'en, Vice Mayor of Shantou, sent his gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Zhang for supporting Shantou higher education, and congratulated GTIIT on the establishment of the "Fanghui Scholarship". "GTIIT is an exemplar of cooperation between China and Israel. The university has introduced high-quality educational resources and made important achievements in teaching and research." He stated that Shantou is actively promoting the high-quality industrial development, and hopes that more enterprises will actively shoulder the social responsibilities and collaborate with universities to jointly contribute to the development of local economy and society.
Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, said that the development of GTIIT was inseparable from the support of people from all walks of life. "The establishment of 'Fanghui Scholarship' has added new strength to the university's award and financial aid system. GTIIT Education Foundation will manage and make good use of this donation to help more young students. We will live up to the expectations of the society and contribute to the economic transformation and upgrading of Shantou, as well as the Great Bay Area's becoming the national scientific research center and innovation highland!"
