On December 24 to 26, Prof. Gong Xingao, Chancellor of Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) led a team to visit Guangzhou High School and Huamei International School, introduced GTIIT’s characteristics, and gave a science lecture titled “Sunshine Lights up the ‘Double Carbon’ Future – from Photoelectric Effect to Solar Cell” for students.
During the visit, Chancellor Gong introduced GTIIT’s teaching conducted in English, latest research progress, achievements of the first graduates, etc., demonstrating the features and advantages of the university.

In the lecture, Chancellor Gong used real-life examples to introduce scientific concepts and the prospect of science in the lecture. He explained the photoelectric effect, the quantum hypothesis of light, the conversion efficiency of sunlight and the structure of solar cells and spiced them up with humor. Students were fascinated by these ideas.

Chancellor Gong also interacted with the students, asking them about concepts including greenhouse effect and semi-conductor. The students answered the questions very actively. In the Q&A session, the students raised their hands to ask questions such as how to overcome difficulties in research.

After the lecture, students came to the stage again to ask questions, appreciating the opportunity to have face-to-face communication with the Academician. Chancellor Gong encouraged the students to work hard on scientific knowledge, to regard the benefit of mankind and society as their own responsibility, and inspired students to become talents of new era.
