On November 25 to 27, Professor Gong Xingao, Chancellor of Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a team to visit five key schools in Henan Province. During the visit, Chancellor Gong gave a science lecture to students and introduced the characteristics of GTIIT.

Chancellor Gong’s team visited the Affiliated High School of Henan Normal University, Xinxiang No.1 High School, the Affiliated High School of Henan University, Kaifeng High School and Xiayi No.1 High School. They learnt about the schools’ history, development philosophy and operation, and introduced GTIIT’s basic situation, training mode and characteristics.

Chancellor Gong gave a science lecture named “Sunshine Lights up the ‘Double Carbon’ Future – from Photoelectric Effect to Solar Cell” for students. He used real-life examples to explain the concept of the photoelectric effect, the quantum hypothesis of light, the conversion efficiency of sunlight and the structure of solar cells and spiced them up with humour. Students could feel the charm of physics and obtain a picture of the development and research prospect of frontier science from this lecture.

Chancellor Gong also chatted with students. He encouraged them, “To achieve the national goal of ‘carbon peeking and carbon neutralization’, the development of science and technology is indispensable, and it is the mission of every scientist to facilitate these developments and promote social progress.” His spirit of science impressed students and started the spark of science in their hearts.
