At about 9 am on July 10, at the tree planting activity of Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, GTIIT faculty, staff and graduate representatives planted a pomegranate tree that symbolizes friendship on GTIIT South Campus. Mr. Eran Gal-Or, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director General of GTIIT, Professor Dganit Danino, Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Head of Biotechnology and Food Engineering Program and 18 representatives of GTIIT first cohort of graduates participated in the event.
"You are the first batch of students to open the gate of the North Campus, so I think it’s a nice moment to let you be the first one to open the second part of GTIIT. This is of great significance to GTIIT" Eran said in the opening speech and expressed his best wishes to the first cohort of graduates. He hopes that graduates will grow up together with GTIIT and create a better future together.

The pomegranate tree was selected for this tree planting event, which has a very beautiful meaning in both Chinese and Israeli cultures.
The pomegranate flowers are red and bright, which symbolizes GTIIT and its first cohort of graduates will be prosperous.
The pomegranate has a tenacious vitality and the pomegranate fruit is full, hugging tightly, which symbolizes the everlasting friendship between China and Israel.

After the tree planting activity, under the guidance of the Department of Campus Construction, the graduate representatives visited some structures of the South Campus, including the sports center to know about the construction progress and explore the South Campus.

The GTIIT South Campus is the main campus of GTIIT. It is located on the south side of Daxue Road, about 700 meters from the North Campus. The west side of the South Campus is adjacent to the Provincial Chemical Laboratory. The practical land area of the South Campus is 533.56 mu and the total construction area is 283,000 square meters. It includes education buildings, research buildings, laboratory buildings, office buildings, libraries, assembly halls, academic exchange centers; student dormitories, faculty departments, canteens and sports venues, supporting rooms; innovative center; campus landscape, pedestrians Flyovers, campus roads and other facilities. At the same time, the South Campus construction follows the national strategy of "accelerating the construction of a resource-saving and environment-friendly society" and based on the concept of sponge cities.
At present, the first phase of the South Campus has been basically completed, and the project is expected to be delivered to GTIIT in August.
