Do you know the correct way of CPR? Do you know how to use AEDs? If you see someone faints, has a cardiac arrest and loses consciousness, what should you do to help him or her?
In order to improve the first aid awareness and self-help skills of students, Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology invited the First Affiliate Hospital of Shantou University Medical College Accident & Emergency Department to conduct a first-aid training from April 10th to 11th.
This training is for 160 freshmen and focused on emergency treatment methods such as cardiopulmonarLy resuscitation (CPR), the use of AEDs, Heimlich First Aid and hemostatic bandaging. Each student can receive one-to-one guidance from experts during the practical operation.

At present, there are 550,000 cardiogenic cardiac arrests in China each year, and the out-of-hospital survival rate is less than 1%. The correct implementation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation is the key to successful rescue. Therefore, this training focused on the teaching of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of AEDs.
The complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation process includes judgment of safety, judgment of cardiac arrest, startup EMS system, chest compression, open airway, artificial ventilation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and early defibrillation. With the guidance of experts, students improved their skills in practice.

"Why should the direction of CPR compression be perpendicular to the sternum?" "Why should we ensure that everyone stays away from the rescued when using the AED?" Students actively answered these questions. In addition to the training content, students also asked other questions about medical knowledge, and the experts answered them one by one.

GTIIT is equipped with three AEDs. Do you know where are they?
They can be found on the 4th floor of the Teaching Lab Building, the 1st floor of the Administration Building, and the corridor of the Research Building and the Administration Building (5th floor).
