On April 4– 9, 2016, Technion Prof. Shlomo Maital taught the course "Value Based Innovation" to STU undergrads.? The course aimed to provide tools that enable entrepreneurs and innovators to succeed on the market through novel product ideas and creative business designs. The course covered how to apply these tools to different management decisions in innovation; to participants' own ideas, and to familiarize students with the key elements of business design.
Prof. Maital is a world-renowned scholar in entrepreneurship and innovation, who once served as Academic Director in Technion and has been invited to MIT (Massachusetts?Institute?of?Technology) as visiting professor. This course has been taught successfully in MIT's summer semesters for twenty years, producing much favorable comment from students. With Value Innovation as core content, this course effectively improves students' innovation ability in a short time by linking theory to practice.
In class, Prof. Maital taught theoretical knowledge with the teaching methodology of Action Learning as well as a great number of commercial cases, like Tell You A Story, which both improved the students' understanding of various commercial rules and lessened their feeling of boredom that might be aroused for pure theoretical analysis.During the course, the students worked in teams to come up with business ideas, wrote a business plan and gave presentations about their projects.
Prof. Maital is teaching this course on an annual basis and will collaborate with STU professors to co-teach the course in the future.
